An introduction to the kokolokahi Bath & Body Oils and the kokolokahi Treatment Experience
The name kokolokahi originates from ‘koko’ referring to the coconut oil that is the base ingredient in all our oils and the Hawaiian word ‘lokahi’ meaning ‘a balance’ or ‘harmony’. It is pronounced ‘koko-lo-car-he’. Recognising that we all have a unique set of needs and desires, we have harnessed the very best from nature using our unique, nourishing super blend of coconut, argan and shea oil and the very purest essential oils to create products based on the five elements. Each pure and natural oil has been created to evoke an emotion based on the luxuriously blended cocktail of essential oils.
kokolokahi STRENGTH – Enhance Your Wellbeing (FIRE ELEMENT)
kokolokahi REVIVE – Elevate Your Aura (AIR ELEMENT)
kokolokahi BALANCE – Ground Your Mind (EARTH ELEMENT)
kokolokahi SERENITY – Calm Your Inner Peace (WATER ELEMENT)

Q: What is a kokolokahi ‘Five Scent Selection Experience’?
You will start your kokolokahi journey with the Five Scent Selection Experience to find the best kokolokahi scent to match your needs. Inhaling the oil will start the sensory journey.
Q: What is the kokolokahi Welcome Touch?
After we have completed the Five Scent Selection and consultation with you we begin our treatment with a unique ritual to encourage you to prepare for the treatment ahead, to get into the treatment zone, to slow down your breathing and your mind and sink back into the treatment couch ready for the treatment to begin. Using the POWER OF TOUCH, the therapist will focus her attention on applying oil to key pressure points on your wrists, temples and soles of the feet, encouraging specific breathing techniques to boost relaxation, then a series of simple massage moves incorporating techniques from Indian Head Massage and Reflexology Pressure Points. We cleanse your feet and gently stretch your body so that you are comfortable and centered on the treatment bed ready for your treatment journey to begin.
Q: How will the therapist adapt the treatment to meet my needs?
The treatment always starts and ends the same with the Welcome Touch and the closing ritual however the actual massage can take on any form. Your therapist will locate key areas of tension and use a number of specific techniques to work through to give relief and improve range of movement. Here are a few key techniques that they may use:
Indian Head: Indian head massage is an ancient therapeutic treatment that has been practiced in India for thousands of years, and is incredibly relaxing. Part of the Hindu health care practice of Ayurveda, Indian head massage focuses on your head, neck and shoulders. It is a deep massage, which uses a variety of pressure and techniques that tap into your seven “‘chakras” or paths of energy and encourage healing and balance in your whole body.
Reflex Pressure Points: Reflexology is the practice of applying pressure to specific points on the feet and hands to influence the health of corresponding parts of the body. Applying strong pressure onto these pressure points can be used to tackle a range of ailments from stress to pain relief.
Swedish: a classic treatment which represents the western style for massage.
Deep Tissue: At the beginning of the massage, lighter pressure is generally applied to warm up and prep the muscles similar to those used in Swedish, then specific techniques are then applied. The most common techniques include:
- Stripping – deep, gliding pressure along the length of the muscle fibers using the elbow, forearm, knuckles, and thumbs;
- Friction – pressure applied across the grain of a muscle to release adhesions and realign tissue fibres;
Trigger Point Therapy: When pressed, trigger points feel like small balls or tight bands in the muscle, and are usually very tender. Healthy muscles usually do not contain knots or tight bands, are not tender to pressure, and when relaxed, they feel soft and pliable to the touch. When trigger points are present, part of the muscle fibre is contracted into a small thickened area, and the rest of the fibres are stretched thin. These muscle fibres are not available for use because they are already contracted. The sustained contraction probably leads to the release of sensitizing chemicals, producing the pain that is felt when the trigger point is pressed. Within our massage we encourage the therapist to explore the key muscles of the body, locate any trigger points and work them.
Thai Massage Stretch Techniques: Thai massage employs stretching, pulling and rocking techniques to relieve tension and enhance flexibility and range of motion.
Myofascial Release: Myofascial Release is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. Gentle pressure is applied slowly using the whole of the hand which will allow the fascia to elongate.
Lomi Lomi Massage: ‘Lomi lomi’ translates to ‘rub rub’ in Hawaiian, and reflects the broad, flowing strokes made with the therapist’s fingers, thumbs, palms, arms and elbows.

Q: What are the benefits and properties of each individual oil?
Virgin Coconut Oil is a widely used oil due to its benefits for the hair and the skin. When applied on the face or skin, coconut oil works as an all-natural moisturiser that replenishes the skin’s natural oils. It can act as a soothing balm, minimizing outbreaks and irritation. As the name suggests, it is derived from coconuts and thus has a similar aroma. It is solid at room temperature and melts on skin contact leaving a soft, non-greasy finish when used as an emollient.
Argan Oil is extracted from the kernels of the argan tree, native to Morroco. Argan oil moisturises the skin and the hair, keeping them healthy. It absorbs easily and is non-greasy and non-irritating which makes it a great natural moisturiser. It has a golden colour and a light texture.
Shea Oil is extracted from the seeds of the fruit of the Shea (Karite) tree and is good for the skin and the hair. Its aroma is slightly nutty.
